Transportation
It easy to reach Southern Karelia by means of public transportation by land or by air. Ryanair and airBaltic fly to Lappeenranta from other destinations in Finland and Europe. You can also arrive by land using bus, train or your own car.
By train
Lappeenranta and Imatra are easy to reach by train, only about 2 hours from Helsinki. See the timetables on www.vr.fi.
Vainikkala railway station is only 20 km from Lappeenranta city centre – here you can take the new & fast Allegro-train to Vyborg and St. Petersburg. Passports and visas are checked onboard the train. More information here.
By bus
Southern Finland offers flexible bus connections.

By plane
Ryanair operates flights from Lappeenranta to Düsseldorf (Weeze) as well as to Milan (Bergamo).

To Russia
From Southern Carelia there are good connections to Vyborg and St. Petersburg in Russia. You can go by bus or train, on a cruise or on a guided tour. You can buy tickets and tours from Saimaan Matkaverkko. The train connection to St.Petersburg departs from Vainikkala railway station, which is located about a 20 min. drive from Lappeenranta.
