Welcome to Lappeenranta and Lake Saimaa Finland

Fascinating experiences & unique nature in the Lake Saimaa region

Lappeenranta and Imatra region - heart of the Finnish Lakeland

Spend memorable holidays by Finland’s largest lake, Saimaa, whatever the season. Tourists have been drawn to the region for centuries – and its attraction remains undiminished to this day. Lappeenranta and Imatra region is located in the Province of Southern Finland, South Karelia, near the Russian border only 200 km from St. Petersburg and 230 km from Helsinki.

At Lake Saimaa, you can experience the clean and safe nature destination where inhabitants naturally keep a distance. Lappeenranta Fortress and harbour boulevard and Imatra rapids await you, and tourist services help your trip around the lake.

In summertime, everyone in the Saimaa region takes to the waters to admire the stunning lake scenery on a cruise, canoe or a rowing boat. There are plenty of nature trails to hike or bicycle at and local cultural events to enjoy. A summer night in Finland is enchanting, since the sun never seems to set. In the Lappeenranta and Imatra region, the dusk only lasts for a couple of hours in midsummer.

In wintertime the magnificent environment can be enjoyed on snowshoe hikes and ski trips. Lappeenranta and Imatra offer hundreds of kilometres of ski trails. In winter, the dusk falls early in the day, and the bright starry sky and blazing northern lights are experiences that will stay with you forever

In any season, you can enjoy the healing nature and the ancient Finnish remedy: sauna.
