Winter activities

Fresh white snow and crispy winter weather. Staying indoors is only an excuse! There are lots of enjoyable winter activities to fill your days with in the region of Lappeenranta and Imatra region.

Skiing routes for everyone can be found from areas hundreds of ski track kilometres. Cross-country enthusiasts will love the first snow trail prepared in Imatra. In the vicinity of the new Ukonniemi Stadion, the track proceeding from the Ukonniemi area serves skiers until the arrival of natural snow.

The freezing over of ice in the lake areas doesn't have mean ending of swimming season. If you are looking for a huge amount of refreshment, go ahead and try winter swimming and next entry to warm sauna!

Imagine lying on your back with ice floating round you and the frost nipping at your cheeks. Imatra’s Vuoksi river or Lake Saimaa is surging and foaming on all sides. This is dry-suit floating. This activity can be engaged in all year round, since a watertight rescue suit keeps the floater dry, and an adequate amount of warm clothing can be slipped inside it.

It’s worth it to test the fishing areas in the winter as well. Ice-fishing is a relaxing, contemplative type of sport. Good places for catching fish in the Saimaa region are Vuoksi Fishing Park (Vuoksen Kalastuspuisto) in Imatra and local waterways that have stocked fish. You’re more likely to catch something with the help of a local fishing guide. You don't need any licences to go ice-fishing.
