Lappeenranta’s summer 2018 Sandcastle is the biggest sandcastle in Finland!
The 15-year-old Sandcastle respects the European Year of Cultural Heritage in its castle art.
Finland’s biggest Sandcastle includes all the Finland’s castles as well as the Vyborg’s Castle. There are also sculptures of familiar tourist attractions from the Saimaa area and St. Petersburg as well as the destinations of Athens and Milan. From the Sandcastle, which is celebrating its handsome age, can be spotted also familiar sculpture characters from the previous years and the spirit of the FIFA World Cup, also played in neighboring St Petersburg.
Lasting favorites, like the little train, the carousel and the bouncing castle entertain children. There are also miniature golf, rentable bikes, kayaks, canoes, SUP-boards and rowing boats. In the Sandcastle, there is also a sand chapel where devotions are held through the whole summer. In addition to all this, there is a tourist info, a café and an ice cream kiosk at the Sandcastle.
This year audience gets to participate in the sculpture work. At the Sandcastle open and free public sculpture events are organized for everyone which are being guided by virtual arts education student, sand sculptor Jesse Törmikoski.
Public sculpture events can be participated between 12th and 30th of June every week from Tuesday to Saturday between 4pm and 6pm. The sculpture event won’t be organized at Midsummer.
All the necessary sculpture tools can be found at the Sandcastle. The sand doesn’t really mess but gets stuck also to clothes so that is important to remember in clothing. To people with sensitive hands we recommend gardening gloves.
