On the filming location tour of the TV series Bordertown, Lappeenranta’s past is always present
The past is a central theme in the filming location tours of the TV series Bordertown. There are two types of tours available this summer in Lappeenranta. There is an entirely new tour of the harbour and an updated tour of the city centre based on the tour of the first season.
The second season of Bordertown was filmed in Lappeenranta in the autumn of 2017 and was aired in Finland in the autumn of 2018, and now it is distributed internationally. The filming location tours introduce the most important filming locations, the background of the series and Lappeenranta, the hometown of Sorjonen.
The head of marketing, tourism and customer service at the City of Lappeenranta, Mirka Rahman, promises that the past will be ever present especially on the new harbour tour.
“The Bordertown harbour tour shows the crime scenes from the TV series in Lappeenranta’s fortress and harbour. The tour presents both the TV series and the City of Lappeenranta, which turns 370 this year. One of the themes is the past, which haunts the second season of the series and is also present on the walls of the fortress and in the harbour”.
The tours scripted by Mirka Rahman and shaped by the creator of the series, Miikko Oikkonen,
are led by trained tour guides from the Lappeenranta tourist information services, who can be recognised from the Bordertown shirts with the text “Hyvien ihmisten kaupunki” - “the City of Good People”.
Rahman has cooperated with the TV series’s production company Fisher King since planning the filming of the first season. The filming location tour gives you the opportunity to hear about backgrounds and situations, which you cannot hear about anywhere else.
“It has been marvellous to incorporate the Bordertown series, which has been sold to over 180 countries, as a part of the Lappeenranta experience. In the tour we present Lappeenranta and its history as if it were one of the main characters of the series. It will be a memorable experience for both tourists, fans of the TV series and locals”, Rahman rejoices.
The harbour tours start from the tourist information point in front of the Sandcastle and they will be organised in English on Fridays on 16.8 and 23.8 at 4 PM.
You can take part in the harbout tour by booking in advance or by buying a ticket before the tour starts.
At the start of the tour, you can take a picture with a cardboard cutout of Sorjonen and there are Bordertown magnets and luggage tags on sale in the tourist information point.
The updated tours of the city centre are organised upon request. The tour introduces the work places of the main characters in the series.
Both tours last around an hour and cost 10 euros per person. Tours can also be arranged at other times upon request for groups of at least five people.
